Wind, Fire and Smoke: Element in St. Louis

Good afternoon everyone!

I am excited to write my first blog on a recent visit to #elementstl. It is a new local restaurant in Lafayette Square (close to downtown St.Louis). I heard good reviews from friends about this place. When a friend asked my husband and I to go here for her birthday celebration, I could not wait to go!

The restaurant was a little difficult to find just based on the signs that are in front of the building. We walked around the building twice before we found the entrance, but when we figured it out I was pleasantly surprised. My first reaction was that this place is swanky, very modern, and chic. Even the elevators were modern, with lime green accent panels and stainless steel walls. We started out having a cocktail in the lounge ,which is on the third floor. The drinks were unusual takes on old school libations, such as a manhattan with Campari instead of bitters, and refreshing tequila with gingerale and lemon. I posted pictures of the lounge in my gallery. It was the perfect atmosphere to share libations with my husband and friends. The lights were dimmed, soft music played in the background, black leather couches were comfortable to sit on and relax, and the unique lighting and paintings on the wall were a great conversion starter.

After our cocktails, we went downstairs to the restaurant and were seated in a private room. My friend did not reserve this room when she made reservations, but because they did not have another party, they let us have the room. The room was the perfect size for our party of 9. We all had enough space, but it felt very cozy and intimate. The walls were a rich red brick, and it had a sliding frosted glass door for privacy. The table appeared to be handmade and had different colors of wood in it and a glass finish. The table was also a conversation starter, since it was so unique, my friends were trying to figure out how it was made. Our server was very attentive, our waters were always full, cocktails never ran dry, and the food was really tasty.
For all those who know me, I am not adventurous with trying new foods at all. I am trying to break out of comfort zone though, and I definitely did that at #elementstl. The special for the evening was a mini 5 course meal paired with 5 different mini drinks. They have a minimal supply of the special of the day ( 9 ), and when they are done that is it for the night. My friend and I both had the special. It was the perfect amount of food for me, and for $30 I was very satisfied. My friend was still hungry after his meal. I guess it depends on your appetite :).
First course was Fall Salad with Solace Rose Wine. This was followed with #urbanchestnut Winged Nut Beer and a chunk of Boar Ham. The ham was very tender and almost melted in my mouth. Third course was Bell’s Winter White Beer and Porkducken (pork belly and duck). The texture was not what I expected at all, it was a lot like chicken or turkey but with a stronger flavor. This was extremely out of my comfort zone, and I almost couldn’t do it. I was even so nervous, I started sweating. I just went for it though and am so glad I did. I really enjoyed it. Fourth course was Lamb Ragout and Dashe Zinfadel Red Wine. Dessert was Sweet Potato Pie paired with Doplomatico Antique Rum. I savored every bite. For me, it was the perfect way to try something new without committing to an entire meal.
Dinner was great, company was great, and I would most definitely return here for a date with my husband, a family dinner, or even drinks with my girlfriends. On a side note the restaurant is above a rock climbing gym and you can see people rock climb when you walk to the bathrooms. I think rock climbing will be my next adventure :).

Until next time

Annie
