The Shack

I had heard from my coworker, that The Shack in Ballwin was a great brunch spot. He had such a great review on it; I just had to see what the The Shack was all about. I called my two best girlfriends, whom are foodies too, and we set out to see for ourselves.

As you can see in the picture, it appears to be more of a formal brunch spot, but when you get inside, this is just the opposite. I had a few minutes before my friends got there, so I snooped around a bit. When you first walk in the door you see a open foyer and writing all over the walls. You can write your name on the wall and they encourage their customers to do so anywhere there is space. The writing continues throughout the entire restaurant. If you have been to Broadway Oyster Bar,The Shack’s inspiration came from there. They had a full house with a decent wait list going. It is definetly the type of place you can go with your girlfriends after a hard work out or yoga class and not feel out of place or underdressed.

We were not getting out of this ladies date without having at least one cocktail , and some coffee. We were being extra chatty and our server was great, she gave us all the time we needed to enjoy our time together.
The Shack is known for their bloody Mary’s, a veggie mary and a meaty mary. I couldn’t resist the veggie mary ;). It was delish! The salt/ cajun spicy seasoning on the rim was incredibly tasty, and it came with a pickled carrot and asparagus. I really enjoyed the pickled carrot. I know pickling veggies isnt for everyone, but I can never get enough of it. One of my gf’s got a trashed screwdriver, that had a pear apple cider in it. It was lovely, and a fun way to compliment the orange juice and vodka.
The coffee mugs were a great conversation starter, as they had cute sayings on them! The sayings made us chuckle.

We finally decided to stop chatting and feed our hungry bellies. It was difficult to make a decision because it all sounded tasty, but we each decided on something different so we could share! We ordered the corn beef and hash, Mrs. John Denver(spinach and cheese omelette), and the King of Club ( chicken, bacon, tomato, cheese omelette with avocado ranch).

While I definitely enjoyed my dish, the corn beef and hash, it was not the best corn beef and hash I have had. The corn beef was cut into little cubes and although tender, not too flavorful. The King of Club and Mrs. John Denver were delicious. The eggs, for both onelttes, were cooked perfectly and were both extra cheesy. I don’t know about you, but I love cheese and especially with my eggs. Yum! The chicken on the club was juicy, and the avocado ranch was creamy and bursting with flavor.
