The STL Foodies are exploring Saint Louis one restaurant at a time! Our foodie adventure this month was SugarFire Smoke House in Olivette. This time it was Mike (@gusgusfunbus), Charlie and Christine (@weeatstuff_STL), and my friends Doug and Christine.
It is a frequent go to for my friends, but was a first for me. I am not a big bbq fan, so it was never on my radar. I have heard so many people rave about, and I finally gave in!
We had the best time! Of course, when your in great company and eating well it is always a great time! SugarFire has a lovely outside patio area and the smoker is out front as well! When you first walk in, a sign says wait time from here 15 minutes. Luckily for us, we beat the dinner rush and had only a 3-5 minute wait. Even 15 minutes though is not bad and worth the wait. They don’t have Pepsi or Coke products! They had Ski, so of course that’s what I had to get. I started taking pictures immediately!! There was so much to photograph!
It is set up cafeteria style! The menu is written on the wall to the left of the line. My friends helped me figure out what to order! I was going to order the Portobello sandwich, but my friends pointed out I was in smokehouse. At least for my first time, they convinced to me to get some meat! So I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, two sides of macaroni and cheese, and pecan cornbread. All of this food and a soda was only $15.
I may or or may not have taken my Nikon with me. Charlie and I busted out our cameras and were taking pictures of our food. We all respect each other and waited until everyone got their food to eat, so we could photograph each other’s. It is kind of comical. We mean business.
The head pitmaster, Casey, came by and asked how we were enjoying our food! We got a picture with him!! Casey put Charlie and Christine’s sticker with their logo on the wall in the kitchen!! Too Cool! Mike ( GusGusFunBus) and Mike Johnson (the owner) exchanged t-shirts. Mike sells his t-shirts. You need to buy one! I have one and wear it on days I don’t feel like dealing with any crap. You will see why below :P.
I did not get chance to try all of the food, but judging by everyone elses reaction it was food coma worthy :P. The mac n cheese was some of the richest and creamiest I have ever had. I didn’t need to order two sides of it, but its mac n cheese so…. The pulled pork was very tasty. It was smokey and juicy. The flavor was so good, it did not need sauce. It had a really nice bun on it too. Sometimes the buns don’t hold up with a lot of food on them, but this one did. Although I did not use any sauce, I still tried all of them. Black Cherrilicious, Coffee BBQ, and Texas Hot BBQ ( it was just that HOT!!) were very good! I really liked the Black Cherrilicious. I did not like the Caroline Mustard, Sweet St. Louis, or the White bbq sauce though. It really just depends on your tastebuds.
Here are some pictures of the everyone’s food!

Casey brought us out some prime rib and homemade horseradish sauce to sample that was not on the menu. I don’t know about everyone else, but I definitely felt like a rockstar trying an off the menu item. The prime rib was incredible. We all loved it, but Doug was floored with it!
By the end of our dinner, Doug and Christine were trying to come up names for their own food blog. I cannot even… This will be the ultimate blog that would make you pee your pants funny, and tantalize you with amazing food. Christine is the funniest person I have ever met, and is extremely creative. Doug is very analytical, and informative. (He is a scientist and wickedly intelligent). Don’t worry when this blog happens, you will be the first to know. I will be telling errrrybody and anybody who will listen to me. The #dreamteam (Christine and I) will be unstoppable. Bring on the food, the wine and the good times.
If you haven’t checked out SugarFire Smoke House, it should be definitely be on your list to try soon!
Until our next #STLFoodiesEatup in July, at Prasino in St Charles,
Lisa Annie,
XOXO
