Hi friends!!! It has been a while since I have added any content. Between my 8 month old son, classes for school (I’m going back to become a nurse 😍), and the 5 thousand other projects I take on, blogging fell to the back burner. I have missed it though and am going to try my best to be more consistent with new blogs, starting now lol.
Anyway enough about my excuses 😜. My husband and I recently, as in yesterday, went to dinner at Cork and Barrel with some dear friends (This was weeks ago now, oops). We had high hopes and expectations. After all, Feast Magazine had great things to say about the place. It’s located out in St. Peter’s and really tucked away.
The big attraction to Cork and Barrel is supposed to be the way they cook their meat, which is in a big green egg. Our server told us, only the steaks are cooked in it. Even then, they are cooked in it only at the end. I almost bought my hubs a big green egg for his birthday, but I didn’t. Ha pointless comment I know, but we will own one of these bad boys. I have heard they are the bees knees to cook with.
We arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar. When looking around, we felt like we were in an Applebee’s or a Chilli’s. It had a very cookie cutter feel to it. It was clean and decorated nicely, but just felt a little chainy. We both looked at each other and wondered if this was why the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. Our reseverations were at 7:30, and we saw less than 20 people in the restaurant.
The bartender was wonderful! We ordered old fashioned libations but with a twist. My husband and I ordered each other’s drinks. (Cue the eyeroll lol- but it’s really fun to do). The 1919, their take on a negroni was killer and my hibiscus drink was delicious. We thought well alright! This is going to be epic.
I can’t sugar coat our experience going forward. It wasn’t a pleasant experience and I can say that we won’t be making the drive out to St. Peter’s for food again, unless we have personal references.
We started with a charcouterie board and BBQ shrimp appetizer. We had to sent the shrimp back because they weren’t cooked, and honestly they weren’t any good. They did remake the dish for us. They were tiny shrimp and had no flavor. It was basically boiled shrimp over plain rice with mal’s bbq sauce thrown on top. It was a very disappointing dish. The charcouterie board was pretty decent. The cheeses were wonderful. I failed here, and did not write down what they were, my bad.
My entree was disappointing. I ordered a burger. That seems pretty hard to mess up. If all else fails, you can throw some cheese and bacon on it and call it a day. It was labeled a burger, but was really a deconstructed burger on Texas toast. The ground beef was just thrown on top of the bread, with cheese melted on top. I really wanted a burger to and this was just not satisfying. To be honest, looking back at the description on the menu, I should have known better. My husband ordered a steak. For the price and the quality, it was not worth ordering again.
We ordered dessert, banana fosters ice cream. I give the ice cream a taste and it tasted like vanilla not bananas foster. My hubs tries it, and thinks they same thing. Our friends try it and the consensus is that this was vanilla not bananas foster. We bring this up to the server and she argues with us. I finally had to ask her if she wanted to try to it, since she didn’t believe us. She takes it in the back, and sure enough it was vanilla. They had 86’d the banana foster ice-cream ( 86 means they ran out). They didn’t bother to ask us is vanilla was ok and just assumed we wouldn’t know the difference. Our server didn’t offer us any other dessert or any other way or making up for the mistake.
This was one of the worst experiences, I have had out at restaurant in a very long time. If you live in St. Peter’s and haven’t dined here, I suggested going and see for your self. If you have to drive longer than 15 minutes to get here, in my opinion it is not worth it.
Until we eat again.
Love,
Lisa Annie
