I fell in love with The Fountain On Locust the first time I went there. My husband and I met a group of friends here for dinner one night last summer, and it is now our go to place. It was our same friend, who invited us to element. I see a trend here :). We even chose The Fountain on Locust to celebrate with our family and friends (local and out of town) the day after our wedding this past August.
It is so hard to describe the uniqueness of Fountain. It is a relatively small restaurant that is famous for burlesque shows, award winning ice cream, and entrees with a small twist, you will hear about below. Beautiful women and stars are painted on bright blue walls. The owner of The Fountain On Locust painted the murals on the wall! The floor is black and white tile with dark wood all around and funky lampshades (the owner made these from scratch) hanging down for a dim light. It makes me want to dress like a flapper girl or woman from the 1920’s.
While waiting to sit with Erich tonight, who is intriguing, sophisticated, and one of my favorites at Fountain, I had Nathan (the bartender- who is a great mixologist ,delightful to talk to, and my other favorite person) make me a drink of his choice. My go to Pear Marmalade Fizz Martini is not in season right now. It is refreshing with a hint of pear and mint!
I could drink them all night! Nathan decided to make me a whisky kiss Xxx.
It was a little on the sweet side for me but still tasty. I enjoy bourbon! It had bourbon, ginger liquor (from St. Louis local The Big O) simple syrup, and fresh lemon juice.
While waiting for my seat I also took a few pictures of their clever creations to show you.
Grand chocolate ice cream martini.
Nathan also made this beautiful banana dessert. Vanilla ice cream with brûlée bananas and buttered brown sugar and bourbon topped with whip cream!
After Erich found out I was going to put my experience into a blog he asked me to trust him. I let him order my entire meal. He picked the Tomatoe Basil Bisque and Chicken Tortilla Soup for a starter and my sides. I could hardly decide which one I liked the most, but I’m going to give it up to the chicken tortilla. It was creamy, had a hint of spice at the end of every bite, and the chicken was so tender. I devoured it. The Tomato soup would have been perfect with the Royal Grille (the grilled cheese with Apple). This is my go to sandwich, but Erich made me try something new, and I am thankful for that!
Erich chose the Mixed Salad Sandwich for my meal. It is Fountain’s famous St. Louis City Salad, which has artichokes. red onions, and a homemade pesto dressing. This is served on a toasted hoagie with melted parmesan cheese and garlic. I added chicken to get my protein in. The sandwich was so flavorful my mouth wasn’t sure what to do :). One bite would be pesto dressing, the next bite more of the garlic or red onion, and some bites I was tasting all three.
I was already getting full, so I boxed up half of my food to save room for dessert. You cannot come to Fountain and not have their famous ice cream for dessert.
For dessert, Erich picked the pumpkin pecan cake with vanilla ice cream garnished with an orange bite. I do not normally like cake or pie and ice together. I am not a fan of hot and cold textures together or the sweetness of pie and ice cream either. The pumpkin pecan cake was just barely warm and savory, when added with the ice cream it was perfect. The pecans were caramelized and added just enough sweetness to the cake.
Banana Brûlée
I couldn’t eat all of it, so I boxed the rest of my dessert to bring home. My husband ate my leftovers and said it was the best sandwich he has had In a while and the best pesto he has ever had.
After dinner, Erich, Nathan, Billy, and I took a picture together!
Wether you are looking for a tasty and light cocktail, a delicious ice cream dessert, or a mouth watering meal with friends, this is your place!
Until next time!!
